The Lone Star Writing Project is led by Dr. Tommy Thomason and Dr. Michael Sampson. Thomason and Sampson have worked together since 1981, leading staff development seminars across America, presenting at international conferences, and co-directing the acclaimed Pathways to Literacy Seminars.  The two, in conjunction with Dr. Bill Martin, Jr. and Dr. Roach Van Allen, developed the comprehensive school writing program that is now called the Lone Star Writing Project.  All LSWP trainers are trained by Thomason and Sampson and work closely with the two to ensure high quality, successful results in all our school partnerships.

Dr. Michael Sampson

A veteran classroom teacher of grades K-8, Sampson is the author of five professional books for teachers and 25 books for children.  In addition to his work with the Lone Star Writing Project, Sampson is director of programs in literacy  at Texas A&M University--Commerce, and co-director of the elementary curriculum and instruction doctoral program. 

His professional books include Total Literacy: Pathways to Reading, Writing and Learning, Pathways to Literacy: Process Transactions and The Pursuit of Literacy.  Bill Martin's co-author, his children's books include Rock It, Sock It, Number Line and Adam, Adam, What Do You See?

 

 

 

 

Dr. Tommy Thomason

One of the nation's leading authorities on the writing process, Thomason is a former professional  journalist who now chairs the Department of Journalism at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth Texas.  Thomason brings the perspective of a professional writer as he consults with school districts across the nation, visiting classrooms and demonstrating writers workshop to students. 

His books include Absolutely Write!: Teaching the Craft Elements of Writing; Write on Target: Preparing Young Writers to Succeed on State Writing Achievement Tests; and Writer to Writer: How to Conference Young Writers.
